Beautiful American coin silver footed compote by William Gale & Son. c.1852. It weighs approximately 17 troy ounces and is decorated with an etched flower and leafy scrolled design. It measures 8 1/2" x 13 1/4" INCLUDING the handles. WITHOUT the handles it measures 8 1/2" x 10 3/4". At the highest point it measures approximately 4 1/2" tall. There is an applied gadrooned edge around the top edge and the bottom edge of the applied foot. No monogram. Marks include Wm. Gale & Son, New York and the year date stamp of 1852. William Gale was a very well known silversmith from New York NY. Very good condition with one very minor pin sized ding. This is a gorgeous piece of early American silver.
